Assembly Blog

Today's assembly started with scenes of actors from movies telling us to reach for our potential greatness. We are meant to do great things and make a difference. Difficulties come our way to try and tear us down but as long as motivation and determination are factors, success will be the ending result. Something else that was touched during the assembly is texting/drinking and riving.  No matter who is texting you don't not put the people around you life's in danger. The same goes with drinking and driving. Being under the influence and going being the wheel is a tragedy waiting to happen.

HUMAN FOOTPRINT...

Conclusion 1:

All things in the human footprint suprised me because it never occured to me that one person could use that much resources and food. The thought of the whole world using as much as the United States is frightening! The steps I will take to help reduce our foortprints are to educate others and ask them to pass on the infromation learned as well. Also recycle everything that can possibly be reduced into something else. I can teach others to reduce their foortprints as well by showing them how to recycle and cut back down on water supply ect. Additional information I would like to know on the footprint issues is the effect of paper to the economy (regular paper we write on, money, legal docs. notebooks etc).

My Human Footprint

conclusion 1:
What was most suprising to me about what an impact each of us make is food we consume and sometimes throw away. For example, we will consume 4,376 loafs of bread, 9,917 lbs. of potatoes, and 25 lbs. of candy in all of our lifetime. I plan on assisting on reducing our footprint by first educating people on how much of the planet we are hurting. Second,

Gattaca or naah

I think living a community like Gattaca is not a good thing. As human beings we can never be perfect and should never be thought of as less than we are because of a disability or disease. What they did is basically segregation and discrimination for traits in themselves they could not control. We are suppose to be different individuals and instead they want everyone to be the way they want them to be.
If animals were capable of regeneration like a planarian, how do you think it would affect the ecosystem?

If animals were capable of regenerating like a planarian, the balance of life would be disturbed. Everything eventually has to go through the circle of life. Planarians are made to regenerate to help decompose things but other animals are not meant to regenerate. It's life.

allele vs allele

dominant allele - an allele that produces the same phenotype whether its paired allele is identical or different
recessive allele - an allele that produces its characteristic phenotype only when its paired allele is identical
Imagine that two alleles will always be present in forming a phenotype. Some are dominant and some are recessive.Recessive alleles will not show up if there is a single dominant allele present. Dominant alleles take priority over recessive alleles so if there is a single dominant allele present it will always effect the phenotype.

For example:

B - dominant

b - recessive

bb = recessive shows through

BB = dominant shows through
Bb = dominant shows through
bB = dominant shows through

Runs in the Family

Type 2 diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is a genetic disease that runs in my family. It can be controlled by keeping healthy weight, following a diet, excersing, and montoring the blood glucose levels. The symptoms are increased thirst, hunger, and urination. Insulin is a medication to keep the diabetes under control.

      I'm Naomi, just another teenager in another high school. I am in love with books that end up having a meaning or amazing story line. Cannot stand eating more than 5 jellybeans because of a tramatic child experience. Alternative music is the music I grew up with. Flavored coffees are my number one weakness, people say it isn't any good for a girl my age but I can't resist. Coming from a big family and being the oldest of my siblings is time consuming. But that's my life and these are a few things about me..
